| Today in Eastwood Garage, Rick Schmidt from National Parts Depot is on hand to talk about one of his pet peeves: folks not paying attention to or cutting corners on inexpensive details that could make their restoration stand apart from the rest.
Rick said that one of the first areas where people cut corners is replacing distinctive factory exhaust tips with incorrect parts or by leaving the tips off altogether. To prove his point, Rick brought several examples of correct and incorrect parts. First, Rick showed Dennis the proper exhaust tips for a 1965-66 Mustang GT. These parts are designed to fit right through the valance and look as if they came right from the showroom. Rick mentioned that they are also available with a wider pipe if your car is equipped with a performance exhaust system. Next, Rick showed Dennis the exhaust tips for a 1969 GT. The difference with these tips is that they are rolled at the ends rather than being cut straight off with a sharp finish. He also showed Dennis the correct tips for a 1970 Mach I and for a 1971-73 Mach I as well. While these parts are specifically for Fords, Rick was quick to add that correct exhaust tips are available for GM cars as well. The next pet peeve that Rick talked about is after market mud flaps that are, shall we say, “creatively attached.” National Parts Depot now has mud flaps available for specific makes and models. The greatest thing is that they are removable, because they simply “pinch” around the lip of the fender! Another eyesore under the hood is a “basket of snakes” in the form of loose hoses. NPD also has all the factory reproduction brackets to keep these hoses in place and from looking like a mess. Finally, NPD has a selection of overflow tanks (especially for cars from the 1960s) that look much better than those cans and milk jugs that many people use!
Now the good news about all of this is that these parts are relatively inexpensive and will make all the difference in the looks of your car! After all, how can you not finish the job right after you have spent all that time and money? Just remember, all these parts are available from National Parts Depot. Don’t forget that National Parts Depot prides themselves on being “the parts deliverers,” and that means you receive your order in a hurry after it is placed.
