Episode #12012
"Gas tanks and components"
Written by Keith Fudge

In this segment of Eastwood Garage, Sean Hughes from Classic Industries joins Dennis Gage to discuss the latest available gas tank replacement products for GM cars and trucks.

The conversation begins by talking about what happens to vintage car and truck gas tanks over a period of several years.  Sean mentions that condensation occurs and where there is water, rust is sure to follow.  If this evil element is allowed to go through the fuel line to the engine, well…you get the picture.  The restoration and repair of old gas tanks is expensive and time consuming.  In addition, there are safety issues to be considered.  However, today life is much easier when that old tank is ready for the scrap pile!  Classic Industries offers a variety of reproduction tanks for GM cars and trucks including kits for some of the more rare configurations that were produced.  For example, Sean begins by showing Dennis a behind-the-seat replacement tank for a GM truck.  If you are a bit skittish about having your fuel right behind the seat, they offer a conversion kit to mount the tank under the frame rails.  This kit includes the sending unit, float, and all the mounting hardware.  Sean also brought some other tanks to show us including tanks for a 1962-67 Nova, a 1958 Impala, and a 1978-81 Camaro.  He even brought a stainless steel tank for a 1967-69 first generation Camaro that provides the perfect combination of show quality and performance.  Classic Industries also offers vented filler necks and regular and locking gas caps.  All of these parts are factory correct because they are produced from OEM specifications.  So, the bottom line is, “Why repair old stuff when you don’t have to?”  Instead, turn to Classic Industries.
