Episode #11021
"Sillplates & Trim Pieces"
Written by Keith Fudge

In this episode of Eastwood Garage, Sean Hughes from Classic Industries joins Dennis to talk about the latest in trim and bright work that is available for classic cars.  First of all, Sean tells Dennis that Classic Industries has all the parts needed to restore classic Novas, Camaros, Impalas, and vintage Chevy trucks.  Next, Dennis mentions that often a neglected aspect of restoration is replacing or restoring the trim or bright work on a vehicle.  Now that task is easy because Classic Industries has all that “shiny stuff” that you need in the form of OER Licensed GM restoration parts.  These parts are made from the original tooling, and they are just a phone call away.  That sure does beat the day just a few years ago when the only way to replace these parts was by purchasing NOS parts.  As we all know, buying those beauties was accompanied by the sound of “cha-ching!”  Not a pleasant experience for the pocketbook!

Sean begins by showing Dennis the louver headlight moldings for a 1969 Camaro.  Next, he moves on to door sill plates for a variety of GM vehicles including 67-69 Camaro, 70-81 Camaro, and 62-67 full-sized Chevy cars such as Impalas.  All these sills display the legendary “Body by Fisher” logo to look like they are brand new factory parts - and they are.  In some cases they are even better!  Up next were chrome trunk and hood moldings for a 1964 Impala and eyebrow moldings for a 1966 model.  Finally, Sean showed Dennis some parts that were really difficult to find just a short time ago but are now available through Classic Industries.  First, there is a 1st generation Camaro convertible top windshield frame molding and 1st generation Camaro vinyl top moldings.  In addition, Sean also had a 1947-55 Chevy pickup center hood molding and a 1964 Impala hood lift molding.  These parts are just two more examples of parts that were almost impossible to find in the not so distant past.  Don’t forget, the sweetest thing is that these parts are all going to fit just like the originals because they are created using the original tooling.  For all your bright work and trim part replacements, look to the folks at Classic Industries!  You can find them on the web at www.classicindustries.com, or you can give them a call at (800) 854-1280.  By the way, don’t forget when you are looking for unique automotive tools and supplies for your automobile restoration, you should give the folks at Eastwood a visit at www.eastwood.com.
