| In this edition of Eastwood Garage, Dennis is joined by our good friend, Keith Maney, who is going to show one of the latest and greatest products from Year One: reproduction convertible Camaro bodies. Yep, you read right! Year One has developed reproduction bodies for Camaro convertibles so that you can easily restore a vintage 1969 Camaro, or if you are more adventurous you can even build one from scratch! Keith told Dennis that the production of these bodies is a huge step for the muscle car hobby in that these parts not only make it easy to restore vintage Camaros, but that they open the door for a new generation of enthusiasts who won’t have to pay an arm and a leg for a vintage Camaro.
Dennis began by asking Keith just what customers receive when they purchase this product. Keith replied that they basically get the “shell” which includes the rear quarters, the trunk, the tail panel, the bracing sheet metal, the firewall, the rocker panels, the floors, and the windshield frame. In other words, you don’t get the doors, the hood, the deck lid, or the front fenders. However, all those parts are available from Year One as well! Keith went on to say that you also get an assembly manual from Year One that makes the job easier to complete. Just to get a picture of what can be accomplished, Keith had brought along a finished Camaro that the folks at Year One had built from the ground up! According to the Year One web site, what follows is a brief description of the process: “The car was assembled in less than 60 days from start to finish and was documented every step of the way. What did we learn? There are some things we don’t carry, but will in the future. There are also a bunch a parts—mainly small detail items—that nobody carries because they aren’t being reproduced. We swiped these from a wrecked-beyond-repair ’69 that was a 2 Fast/2 Furious stunt car in its last life. Finally, we learned that the bodies are pretty darn good, and when you start with a clean slate like this, completely building a ’69 Camaro convertible from the ground up is something that is absolutely within the grasp of the average enthusiast with a small garage, basic hand tools, a floor jack, and jack stands. We know, because that’s how we built this one”. It is also worth mentioning that this blue beauty was absolutely awesome and featured a ZZ4 Crate engine, 700R4 transmission, and a Moser 12-bolt rear end. The inside of the car featured the great-looking Houndstooth interior and the classic horseshoe shifter - parts that are available from Year One.
As Keith and Dennis finish their visit looking at the Camaro, Keith sums it all up by saying, “Now, 1969 Camaros can live forever!” How cool is that?
