MCC Bar & Grill

Not long ago, we traveled to Wilmington , Delaware for a really special event: the Grand Opening of the My Classic Car Bar & Grill! Held in Kahunaville, an entertainment district where the action never stops, we met up with Richie Bryan, Kahunaville's Director of Automotive Events.
Richie told us that Kahunaville is an entertainment complex of sorts and that every Sunday there is a fantastic cruise-in. He said that the weekly event has grown in popularity and people come from as far away as Texas to participate. Dennis commented not only on the number of cars that were in attendance, but also about the quality restorations that he saw. While they talked further, we made our way across the ground to attend the Grand Opening of the MCC Bar & Grill. After the ribbon-cutting ceremony, and a visit with many of the patrons, we returned to the car show area to see some of the fantastic cars that were there and speak with their owners.
First, we found Steve Kilmer and his extreme 1961 Buick LaSabre. This “bubble top” bad boy was customized to the nines with flames, skulls, and custom striping. Steve said that the Lemon-Lime House of Kolor paint is a Kandy color with plenty of metal flake. On the inside, he has installed a 1964 T-Bird interior complete with the wrap-around rear seat. In fact, it is so cool that the back seat looks appropriately enough like the booth in a diner of that glorious era. The car is powered by a stock 364 Buick Nailhead motor coupled to a two-speed Powerglide tranny. Simply put, this is one awesome custom cruiser! Next, we found a truly unusual ride in Brian Bower's radical 1947 International Fire Truck. Fully customized in design, the cab has been cut and stretched 32 inches. The doors have been cut and stretched six inches, and the roof has been chopped four inches. Brian also noted that the body is mounted on the existing fire truck frame with a Nova sub-frame under the front end. The interior is built for comfort with air conditioning from Vintage Air, a DVD system with surround sound, power windows, and a digital dash. Under the hood, there is no doubt that this hot truck is ready to roll as it is powered by a 455 cubic-inch motor with an 8-71 Blower and dual 850 Edelbrock carburetors. Now the really cool thing about Brian owning this particular vehicle is that he is actually a firefighter! He said he regularly drives the truck, but he especially drives it to shows and schools in order to teach fire safety. What a hot truck for a cool job, or is it the other way around? Soon, we found a prime example of 1950s automotive design when we ran into Steve Maconi and his 1956 Pontiac Starchief convertible. This drop-top beauty looks as if it just rolled off the showroom floor with its pink and charcoal exterior and black and white interior. The car is also equipped with the rare continental kit and is still powered by the reliable Pontiac V-8 engine. Steve told us that he attends the Kahunaville Cruise on a regular basis and that he loves cars from this era. He also noted that he has only owned this car for about a month. Steve, thanks for sharing your car with us!
Finally, we found a guy with a car that was so amazing that even the owner didn't know what it was. Meet Michael Acerra, owner of the “mystery mobile!” Michael said that he purchased the car on eBay last year and that it had no history whatsoever. However, he has done some research on some of the parts that make up the vehicle. Michael said the frame is from a 1933 Ford, and the tranny is from a 1939 Ford. The windshield is from a 1954-55 Buick, and the engine is a Ford Flathead V-8 that came from a bus. He also added that the body is constructed from fiberglass. That's all he knows about the car. Michael went on to say that it runs and drives great. Without a doubt, the car turns heads wherever he goes. We just bet it does! What a cool car and an appropriate way to end the day.
The visit to Kahunaville was simply great, and with the opening of the My Classic Car Bar & Grill, what could be better? So, if you catch yourself in Wilmington , Delaware , visit Kahunaville for some hot food and some cool cars courtesy of the My Classic Car Bar & Grill and the Cruise-In at Kahunaville. So, until our next visit, remember: “Honor the timeless classics. Happy Motoring!”
