"Performance Engine Components"
Written by Keith Fudge

Today in the Eastwood Garage segment, Keith Maney of Year One, Inc. will tell us about some engine performance upgrades for some not so usual GM cars. As the segment begins, we find Keith and Dennis Gage looking at the Ram Air setup on an incredible 1970 Buick GSX 455. As both men agree, these cars were plenty fast when they rolled off the showroom floor as they boasted some 370 horsepower bone-stock. However, that's the thing about muscle cars and their owners…there is always the quest for more power! That's what Keith's visit to the garage today is all about, so let's let him get started!

Keith begins by saying that everyone knows the availability of high-performance parts for Chevys, but today he is going to point out some parts for some not so well-known GM cars in the Buick, Oldsmobile, and Pontiac lines. Keith also says that it's all about valve train components. He then shows us a slick trick for a Buick V-8. This shaft roller/rocker setup allows less friction which helps with power boosts! Next, Keith shows us a camshaft, or as he refers to it as “the brains of the engine.” While a person can buy these pieces separately from Year One, they can also order a complete kit that includes everything needed for this type of performance upgrade. Kits include lifters, valve springs, timing chain, locks, retainers, and everything else.

Next, it's all about more air as Keith shows us a high-rise aluminum intake manifold. This Edelbrock Performer Intake is made for an Oldsmobile 350 and will help give you that type of performance of those legendary W-30 cars of the past. Finally, we see the ultimate piece of the puzzle: Edelbrock Aluminum Heads. These particular heads are made for all 326 through 455 cubic-inch Pontiac motors and are modernized in terms of both performance and appearance. If you want some “go fast goodies” for your Buick, Olds, or Pontiac, contact the friendly staff at Year One. You can find them on the web at www.yearone.com , or you can give them a call at 800-Year One. By the way, don't forget when you are looking for unique automotive tools and supplies for your automobile restoration, you should give the folks at Eastwood a visit at www.eastwood.com .
