| In the 1960s and 70s, one particular car option signaled that a muscle car was on the streets: a rear spoiler! Soon, front spoilers also began to appear on high-performance vehicles not only enhancing the appearance, but also adding functionality in terms of aerodynamic design. While these devices did indeed serve both purposes on these cars, unfortunately they were not built to withstand the tests of time and the elements. Consequently, many spoilers (made of plastic) did not survive the constant exposure of UV rays of the sun. Nor did they survive that awful feeling when one pulled too close to a curb or parking barrier and experienced that horrible sound of plastic scraping against concrete. Well, if you are in the process of restoring a car that featured a front or rear spoiler as original equipment, or if you are cloning a car to appear as a model that called for a spoiler, the folks at Classic Industries may have just what you need. Today, on Eastwood's Garage , Dennis Gage and Classic Industries' representative, Ashley Sangster, will take a look at the newest developments in replacement spoilers for the Chevy Camaro, the Pontiac Firebird, and the Trans Am.
First of all, Dennis and Ashley begin to talk about rear spoilers for first generation Camaros and Firebirds. These one-piece units are bolt-on pieces and easily fit the factory original holes. If you plan on adding a spoiler to a “non-spoiler” car, then all you have to do is to drill the holes at the correct locations. Next, the conversation turns to the spoilers themselves, and Dennis and Ashley talk about how years of exposure to the sun have left these original pieces brittle. The good news is that today's replacement spoilers from Classic Industries are constructed from better and more durable materials than the original factory equipment! Speaking of the original parts, these replacement spoilers will attach and look just like the originals because they are licensed by General Motors and are the same specifications as the original factory parts.
As they move across the shop to another area, Dennis and Ashley take a look at some of the more common replacement spoilers, as well as some of the not so common parts for second generation Camaros and Firebirds. There were the front and rear spoilers for 1970-73 Z-28 Camaros, and then there were the front and rear spoilers for the 1970-81 Camaro, Firebird, and Trans Am. All just like the originals and even better! So, if you want to spoil your classic car by giving it some new spoilers, look to the folks at Classic Industries.
