| As we open the doors on this week's episode of Eastwood Garage , we find Sam and Dennis in the presence of an awesome street machine: a 1971 Charger R/T. This outstanding example of Mopar muscle is a great tribute to some of the finest street machines that ever rolled out of Detroit . Sam explains that some of these cars are really rare! For instance, slightly more than 3,000 of this model of Charger ever hit the streets, and this one has some real “oddities” that makes it even more unusual. This car is equipped with the A33 “Trac Pack” which included a Dana rear axle, positrac rear end, and a Hemi suspension system. It also was optioned with the Extra Cooling Package which helped the massive 440 Magnum engine run cooler; however, perhaps the most unusual option was found on the inside of the car: an in-dash cassette player/recorder complete with hand held microphone! That's just what a driver needed to be doing with a 440 Magnum under the hood! In any case, this car also featured other Mopar trademarks such as the legendary “Pistol Grip” shifter connected to a Hurst Competition shifter.
Now, Dennis notes that since these cars were such beasts they endured a lot of abuse, and “after years and years of bangin' gears” these shifters and those specialty Pistol Grip parts often became broken or just plain wore out.
