Motor News Media Day
Written by Keith Fudge
Once a year, Hemming’s Motor News sponsors its own Media
Show in the picturesque scenery of their home in Bennington, Vermont.
This event allows Hemming’s to showcase its new products and offerings
to the public. Also, awarded at this time are the Hobby Heroes Awards
that are given to those people who have made significant contributions
to the automotive hobby field. To entice the media to attend this event,
Hemming’s Motor News brings some of its own vintage auto collection and
allows the invitees to test drive them. With vehicles such as these on
hand, you could bet that Dennis Gage would be right in the middle of the
action.
The first classic that Dennis encountered was a 1910 Buick.
Other than being nearly a century old, this car also had an interesting
historic past; it was sold in Bennington to the first postman who delivered
mail via motorcar in the state of Vermont! As Justin Taylor took Dennis
through the process of starting and driving, Dennis finally turned the
crank and started the Buick. After that, we knew that we were going to
be in for a special ride. It was soon as if we had stepped back into another
era, surrounded by an undisturbed landscape. As Dennis learned to drive
this stellar example from the early days of the automobile, we were simply
happy to be a part of the plan.
Next, we all knew that Dennis had a soft spot for convertibles,
but we didn’t know just how far that he would go until now! We found Dennis
in the company of Cheryl Rivers and her vintage Studebaker wagon! Yep,
that’s right. A wagon. Powered by “Star,” a 1985 Morgan Mare, Cheryl and
Dennis cruised Vermont in this late nineteenth-century open-air cruiser.
I bet that this is one convertible that Dennis doesn’t even own in his
collection. A special thanks goes out to Hemming’s Motor News for allowing
us to be a part of this grand experience!
