Perhaps the only thing
better than cruisin,’ is cruisin’ and listening to your favorite
tunes. While vintage or classic cars are a blast to drive and
ride in, there is however, something left to be desired from those
“classic” sound systems. In this installment of Hemming’s Garage,
Sam and Dennis take a look at some really cool stereo upgrades
for your classic from the folks at Custom Autosound, Mfg., Inc.
In the not so distant past, upgrading to a state-of-the-art
sound system in a vintage car meant that you would literally have
to cut away pieces of the original dash and door panels in order
to maintain a secure fit for the radio and speakers. Now, the
folks at Custom Autosound have made life easier for the “certified
car nut” that can perform a high-tech upgrade without all the
frustration of cutting and fussing.
This segment begins with Dennis and
Sam looking at the stock radio from Dennis’s wife’s exquisite
1963 Ford Falcon Futura convertible. The original tube radio is
immense in size and was surely a drain on the battery while in
use. Now, they will look at some of the replacement options from
the folks at Custom Autosound in Anaheim, California.
Autosound has created a line of hi-tech
audio products for classics, street rods, and customs. The key
benefit to their product is that these classic vehicle radios
fit OEM radio openings so that there is no cutting involved! However,
as we get back to Sam and Dennis, we discover that there are more
than radios that can be upgraded. Let’s say that you replace that
radio, what about the speakers? With Custom Autosound’s kick-panels
with builtin speakers, the days of a jigsaw and mutilated interiors
are now a thing of the past. These units are one-piece molded
parts that can be installed by simply removing the stock panels
and inserting the replacements. The true joy here is that you
can always return your vehicle to its original condition with
only the help of your screwdriver.
Custom Autosound also offers the Secret
Audio System that consists of a power amp, CD changer and a hidden
antenna. This system can be completely concealed and runs from
the FM frequency of the car radio. It also comes with a nifty
remote control so that you can control the platters that you want
to spin from up to eighty feet away! Custom Autosound also makes
a variety of systems for most classic vehicles including vintage
trucks. So, to get that music sound that’s just as sweet to your
ears as a well-tuned engine, contact Custom Autosound Mfg., Inc.
