"Body Panel Replacements"
Written by Keith Fudge

When the “car bug” bites, and when “restoration fever” sets in, the “certified car nut” faces a variety of decisions concerning his or her particular project. There are issues such as whether or not to use salvage parts, reproduction parts, or NOS (new old stock) items. No matter what route you and your pocketbook decide to take, one thing is near certain, chances are that you will have to perform some phase of sheet metal restoration whether it is patching or replacing. In our Hemming’s Garage segment this week, Sam and Dennis take a look at some quality GM Restoration Parts available from Goodmark, Industries in Lawrenceville, Georgia.

This episode begins with Sam and Dennis admiring a beautifully restored 1969 Pontiac Firebird. Equipped with a stock hood, Dennis points out that the hood on this Firebird could be replaced with a GM Restoration hood that has functional hood scoops.

The key benefits in replacing sheet metal using GM Restoration Parts from Goodmark is that they are manufactured from original GM tooling so they look and fit just like the original. Sheet metal from Goodmark is also EDP coated using Electro-Deposit Primer, and the only surface preparation required is scuffing the surface for better paint adhesion. In using this primer, the part is protected from rust as long as the EDP coating remains under the paint.

Goodmark Industries carries a complete line of Cowl Induction hoods for Chevrolet cars and Chevy and GMC trucks. It is interesting to note that these restoration hoods from Goodmark are all constructed from die-stamped steel that looks and fits just like the original so that you can use all the factory hardware. As Sam examines a Cowl Induction hood for a Chevy Nova, he informs us that at one time these replacement hoods were only available in fiberglass. Now, with replacement sheet metal hoods from Goodmark, all the cracking and flexing associated with fiberglass replacement hoods is gone for good.

Goodmark Industries also carries fenders and quarter panels, doors and floors, and just about anything that needs replacing to make your dream ride a reality. You can call Goodmark Industries at 770-339-8557, or you can find them on the web at www.goodmarkindustries.com.
