Just about every “certified
car nut” has just enough tools to perform some degree of repair
and restoration on a project vehicle. However, there are those
certain occasions when the old toolbox just doesn’t hold the right
device for the job. In this week’s segment of Hemming’s Garage,
Sam Memmolo and Dennis Gage take a look at some of their favorite
specialty tools, all available from the Eastwood Company.
The medium sized cabinet has approximately
nine cubic feet of space while its larger counterpart houses eighteen
cubic feet for parts. Both cabinets are made from eighteen-gauge
steel and have been powder-coated for durability. Some of the
standard features of the blast cabinets are a foot controlled
air valve, an adjustable air intake, easy vacuum hookup, and a
moveable exterior magnetic light. Eastwood also stocks a smaller
version of the cabinet as a bench top model. There are also a
variety of accessories available in the form of plugs and caps
for use in order to keep blasting media out of the components
you are cleaning.
Another great specialty product from
Eastwood, and a favorite of Dennis’s is the MITYVAC Single-Handed
Brake Bleeder. As most restoration buffs know, bleeding brake
lines is generally a two-person job, but now with the MITYVAC,
that process has all but changed to become a simple solo effort.
This kit includes a hand pump, a brake bleeding adapter package,
tubing, a reservoir jar with transfer and storage lids and a user’s
manual. The MITYVAC also comes with a five-year guarantee so you
know that it is with you for the long haul.
Finally, when dealing with the restoration
of classic cars, often is the case that sheet metal must be replaced.
While the cutting and fitting of this metal used to be a tedious
process, now it can be done in a flash with Eastwood Company’s,
The Nibbler.
The Nibbler fits securely into the chuck
of an electric drill and turns it into a power sheet metal cutter.
With its replaceable cutting edge, the Nibbler can make straight
or curved cuts easily through eighteen-gauge steel or aluminum.
