Classic Ford Trucks

Glendora California is home cruising territory for a beautiful Banner Blue, 1955 Ford F-100 pickup. Today the truck is fully restored and lives a life of luxury but life for this "Effie" has not always been so soft.

In 1958 it was purchased by the current owner’s grandfather and used as a work truck in the family owned equipment rental yard. For close to 40 years it has served 3 generations of the Fortney family in the rental yard.

Chet Fortney decided to restore it 4 years ago, as a labor of love and as a tribute to his grandfather, making it a real family treasure. Now it's often seen on Sundays with Chet proudly chauffeuring yet another generation of Fortneys to the ice cream store, on family outings and occasionally displayed at local car shows.

Planned as a "driver" it is currently powered by the original six cylinder and geared with an upgraded 3 speed overdrive transmission. Extra care was given to the driveline with an added overdrive and the brakes which now include a booster with two master cylinders. And as Chet states, "it stops now and is comfortable to drive in Southern California traffic."

Chet was able to complete the project with solid insight and advice from SoCal Pickups of Anaheim, California who came up with many of the hard to find correct parts. Rarely do "drivers" get treatments such as bead blasting the body with walnut shells, hand blocking the body and fully assembled twice to make certain everything fit before completion.

Looking at the result of the 4 year meticulous and painstaking effort this "Effie" appears to be more of a concourse truck than a driver. We are sure Chet’s grandfather is proud.
