Camaros at Carlisle

Forget the old Summer Carlisle! It's taken on a whole new look. Now known as the Cool Car Cruise-In, the July 30-August 1, '99 event brought an all new excitement to the Carlisle Fairgrounds. Camaro's were our target for this episode and we hit the bulls-eye big time!

The United Car Club, Inc. (UCCI) provided prime examples of each generation of Chevrolet's pony car. Let by founders, Karl Scheffy and Rick Gawel, UCCI features a roster of judges known throughout the Camaro hobby for their expertise.

Brad McAdam, an expert on early Z-28s along with Jerry McNeish, author of "The Definitive 1967-68 Camaro Z-28 Fact Book" and "The Definitive 1969 Camaro Z-28/SS-396 Fact Book," were major forces behind the International Camaro Club's Red, White and Blue Concours system. McAdam also serves as a technical advisor and Concours judge for ICC.

A choice of three show fields were available. The first used participants balloting to award first-, second and third place trophies. The second show field was judged according to 22 classes and a 200-point system that UCCI judges use to determine three awards per class. The third show field choice was a non-judged fun field.

Other notables included, NHRA Funny Car legend Bruce Larson who was on hand with his USA #1 Camaro and the Mid-Atlantic Nostalgic Drag Association.

As trite as, "too numerous to mention" sounds, not to mention film, we did our best to showcase some of the finest legends around.

Speaking of "legends," adjacent to the Camaro show field, General Motors' 1999 Camaro Legends Tour attracted special attention with its own cars as well as historical displays honoring the history, passion and excitement that surrounds Chevy's pony car. This impressive setup also includes two SEGA Daytona II race games, Camaro Heritage Wall and NHRA Driver Wall each filled with facts and trivia. There's also a Camaro Legends video shown on a 53-inch projection television, displays of engines, Goodyear tires, Camaro wheels, GM parts and other accessories.

The Legends Tour was so impressed that they are booking their 2000 events around Carlisle. Autofest Nationals, October 14-15, 2000 is one of the Camaro Legend Tour events this year and we are very fortunate and proud to have them. For more info on the Camaro Legends Tour, visit:

Summer Carlisle 2000

For the second year, Carlisle is proud to welcome Camaros at Carlisle, an event open to all Camaros. Plus, the Mid Atlantic Street Rod Association will be showing off hundreds of their creations.

Summer Carlisle is entering its 19th year. This mid-summer event was originally created to handle the overflow of vendors and buyers from Spring and Fall Carlisle. Many vendors were anxious to participate in a Carlisle event, but could not obtain space at the sold-out Spring and Fall shows.

Summer Carlisle offers a swap meet with over 4,100 vendor spaces filled with all types of parts, supplies and memorabilia for all makes and models of vehicles, plus a car corral where many individual owners obtain space to sell their classic, muscle, antique or daily drivers. Many of the swap meet vendors are part-time hobbyists who have decided to clean their garage and sell their excess parts.
