Mac's love affair began in High School when,
along with two other students and his instructor, he visited Germany for
the first time. A typical teenage boy, he was already on his way to becoming
a certified car nut. His first Volkswagen acquisition was a trade; a 1957
Jaguar for a VW 1954 Sedan. The Germans called this car the Limousine.
One led to the other. Mac found he enjoyed the
history of German made Volkswagens. They were unique, easy to work on
and reliable. They were also fun! Mac still has fun with one in particular,
a 1944 Kubelwagen, a German military jeep, that he drives all over his
farm with the kids on board. "It's part of the family," he says.
Among his collection you will also find a 1943
Schwimmwagen, 1946 Type 51 off-road car, very rare; a 1950 Karmann Cabriolet
convertible, 1956 and '57 Rometsch, a special coach built by Volkswagen.
Germany's Rometsch Beeskow won the Golden Rose award for best body style
three years in a row in '55, '56 and '57. In case you doubted it, Mac
just happens to have a 1956 Veeskow.
