Greg Schroeder's 1974 Bricklin SV-1
" The car was the vision of Malcolm Bricklin and designed by Herb Grasse. This car is the 36 one made the first year of a production run of 772. There were a total of 2854 cars built from 74-75. The car was introduced as a Safety Vehicle(SV-1).The bumpers could exceed the crash test requirements of the time. The bumpers would recess in minor impacts without doing any damage to the body. There was a built in roll cage and the occupants were seated below the side frame. The gas tank was also enclosed in the frame. There is no cigarette lighter or ash tray. There is no chrome or spare time. Maybe one of the first cars to do this. The gull wing doors did not require much space to the side of the car like most cars in the period so it would not swing out into traffic when you were trying get out of the car.
The body is made out of acrylic with the color impregnated in it. There were five safety colors offered. Red, White, Green, Orange and Suntan. The interiors were all brown.
The 74's were powered by an AMC 360 4bbl (220 hp) and the 75 by a Ford 351 Windsor 2bbl (175 hp)
I still have a lot of work to do on the car, but it has been rare that I have had the chance to take photos when not having the car apart. "
