Ford Falcon Restoration
| |
This begins a series of pictures of pieces and parts
that have been removed from the car and then sent out for repair and/or
service. With picture number 44, this is some of the trim parts that
were being sent out to our chrome plater; and at Muscle Car Restorations,
we use a company by the name of Paul's Plating Company in Mars, Pennsylvania.
They have been doing our chrome plating for many, many years; and
they are of the highest quality; and one of the things that needs
to be noticed when sending chrome plating out is the level of detail
that the chrome plater maintains during the chroming process. A lot
of chrome platers tend to over chrome so parts don't fit later, and
they also over chrome some of the lined detail that is on factory
original parts; and we've found with Paul's Plating that they maintain
the integrity of the parts, they maintain the size of the parts so
they do fit together later when you try to assemble the car; and they
also maintain a high level of detail that was in the original factory
part. We are very, very pleased with Paul's Plating, and we use them
exclusively in all of our chrome plating. |
|
Additional chrome plating; and in this photo, you can
see that we took apart vent windows and interior door panel trim parts;
and you can see the hood scoop inlet chrome is also in the photograph.
We photograph many of these pieces, and we inventory individual parts
before we send anything off site. We take a lot of pictures with the
customer's name on a sheet of paper in the photo so that we can tell
whose photo it is later. |
|
Another angle of the same photo number 45, noticing
chrome plating on side glass and vent windows to be sent in for chrome
plating. |
|
This is more chrome plating; and in this particular photo, you can
see that we were sending in the header panel for the convertible top.
You can see the Falcon script on the lower right hand corner of the
photo. You can even see the antenna bezel, which is Falcon Futura
1963 only, it's sort of an angled back antenna mount. Very difficult
to re-chrome because you have to disassemble and almost sacrifice
-- in fact, in this case, we had to sacrifice the antenna itself to
send the chrome bezel in; and then it becomes a really big challenge
to reinstall a new antenna into that re-chromed bezel. You can also
notice exterior mirrors being sent out for re-chroming, sun visor
mounts and especially latches for the convertible top that latch into
the header panel. |

Continuing with more chrome plating of actually stainless steel
repair. Picture number 48 is of the Beginning of the stainless steel
repair and polishing that we send out to a company in Minnetonka,
Minnesota. The name of the company we have been lucky to get involved
with is Iverson Automotive. George Iverson is one of the most talented
people that I've ever met in the repair and polishing of stainless
steel parts; and he, again, is one of those craftsmen that gives us
very, very high quality, very good turn-around time at a very, very
competitive price and; we are real proud of the work that he does
on our cars. Picture number 48, the stainless is of the header panel
and around the front windshield trim; and we find that cars, when
they are restored and the craftsmen will take the time to polish the
stainless steel, really separates a good restoration from a great
restoration; and we strive at Muscle Car Restorations to provide the
highest quality restoration work so we do, on almost every occasion,
send all the detail trim in to be restored at the highest level possible. |
|
More chrome, more stainless, all being readied to be sent out either
to Iverson Automotive for the stainless work or to Paul's Plating
for chrome plating. |
|
The front lower windshield trim and four stainless steel hubcaps.
This is another one of those items that is easily overlooked and easily
avoided because of the expense of polishing and repairing stainless
steel wheel covers; but the bottom line is that it will take a car
from an average restoration to a great restoration and approve its
overall appearance and appeal so we almost always go forward in that
area. |
