Ford Falcon Restoration
| |
The right front suspension. During the course of the
restoration, Dennis and myself had discussions on what to do, or what
we could do, during the course of the restoration, or during the course
of this paint job, that would be better off done now instead of later;
and one of the decisions was made to rebuild the front suspension.
In this photograph, number 34 shows the Beginning of the disassembly
process of that front suspension to rebuild it with new bushings and
new upper and lower control arm bushings and tie-rod ends and all
the things that are going to help this car drive as nice as it's going
to look. During the course of the front suspension decisions, we also
discussed the interest of removing the engine and sort of freshening
up the engine compartment and repairing some rust that had been poorly
repaired in earlier work that had been done to the car. |

to be put on an engine stand. |

The front of the engine; and in the background, you
can see the engine stand is ready to receive this engine. |
|
This photo was taken because of some wear and tear that we noticed
on the car when we removed the engine; and specifically, you can see
the flywheel and the starter ring gear laying on the floor. One of
the things we noticed when we were removing the transmission and bell
housing was that the ring gear was severely worn, and one nice thing
with a Ford product is this ring gear can actually be removed from
the flywheel but heating it and be turned around and reinstalled with
heat and cooling; and that was what we were doing here. We actually
removed the ring gear and basically turned it around and reinstalled
it so that it will work for many years to come. |

This is a good, a real clear photo of some of the rust problems
that were apparent on the engine compartment of Dennis and Ellen's
Falcon; and part of what we wanted to do by removing the engine and
doing the front suspension was to patch and repair, with new metal,
these rusted areas before applying a new coat of epoxy and our special
mixture of chassis black paint. |

The driver's side top of the inner fender panels, which also shows
some severe rust in that area. Subsequently, all of that rust was
repaired with good metal, body filler applied, and repainted in chassis
black. |
