One of first pictures after the car was totally disassembled
and delivered to plastic media blasting for paint removal. And this
particular picture number 9 is of the lower rear corner of the driver's
door, which is showing pinholes and rust, which later turned into
being a much bigger problem we originally thought. |
|
The actual patch where the rust repair was made, where
we cut away a triangular piece of metal and welded it in and repaired
that rust. |
|
Here's a photo of the passenger side lower quarter panel
in front of the rear wheel and above the rear wheel; and in the photo,
you can see the chalk-marked area that shows where there is pinhole
rust in those areas which will be repaired later. |
|
Continuing on that same side of the car, the passenger side, looking
above the top of the wheel house and around the wheel lip to the quarter
panel. You can see the marked areas where rust has developed and must
be cut out and repaired with good metal. |
|
The driver's side rear quarter panel behind the rear tire, the lower
rear left quarter panel, where there had been previous damage, and
quite rusty in that area where moisture had settled and caused much
rusting problems; and you can see how we have ground away the body
filler that was covering this area prior to media blasting and the
chalk outline is approximately the area that will be cut away and
repaired. |
|
This is the back lower passenger side quarter, which, again, had
one small rust area where moisture typically settles; and that, again,
needs to be cut away and welded in with good metal. |
|
The patch that was installed into that lower rear right side quarter
panel, and you can see the metal finishing that goes on, and those
welded areas are actually covered with a led soldering process to
prevent any pinholes in returning in our bodywork later. Muscle Car
Restorations, we always cover every welded panel on the exterior of
the cars with a body solder to prevent any moisture from coming from
inside the car getting into our paint work and causing bubbles and
adhesion problems to our bodywork. |
