The ubiquitous Model A, first introduced in 1928, remains
a popular automobile on the collector market. As the car that put Ford
back at the top of the Big Three in the late 1920s, it represents a significant
piece of the Ford Motor Company's history. Though not as long-lived as
its predecessor, the Model T, the A's affordable price, excellent styling
and mechanical reliability resulted in over four million sales by the
time the model was retired from the line in 1931. The 1931 roadster version
displays smooth, gorgeous styling, especially those built to DeLuxe status.
A number of 1931 Model A roadsters recently moved
into new hands through the Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction in Scottsdale,
Arizona. Ranging from a high of $23,000 to $17,000 the activity shows
that Ford's Model A has come a long way from its initial $520 price tag.
Recent listings in Hemmings Motor News include a AACA National award winning
DeLuxe roadster priced at $35,000. If that's too steep a price for your
wallet, a number of base-level roadsters needing restoration can be found
on the pages of HMN for less than $10,000 or just under $20,000 for a
restored example. Happy motoring!
